Women's Health

Nutrition is emerging as a novel approach to treating women's health problems, offering a holistic and preventive perspective.

Recognising the intimate connection between dietary choices and overall well-being, healthcare professionals like me, are increasingly

incorporating nutritional interventions into the management of conditions with outstanding results

Can nutritional intervention really help me?

Short answer is Yes.

While modern medicine offers valuable treatments for women's health & intimate health problems, nutrition presents a complementary and often more holistic approach that addresses underlying root causes and fosters long-term wellness instead of targeting symptoms only.

Health issues, such as vaginal and urinary tract infections, hormonal imbalances, difficulties with reproductive health and immune system dysfunction are positively effected by nutrition therapy whilst not incurring side effects, medication dependancy and typically involve fewer risks whilst still promoting sustainable health habits.

Most importantly however, nutrition empowers women to take an active role in their own well-being, offering a sense of control and self-awareness.

Spotlight on 2 common conditions

Deep dive into 2 of the most common conditions that women are suffering with.

Vulvovaginal Candidiasis (VVC)

Do you experience any of these?

If you've answered yes, we need to talk!

Whether its mild discomfort 'down below' or severe systemic issues, none of these symptoms are normal.

Regaining control of your fungal infection and getting back to life!

Candida infection is most commonly caused by the overgrowth of Candida albicans,

(90% of case), a disturbed microbiota and a compromised immune system. It is a complex condition that can manifest in various forms throughout the body, including oral thrush, genital yeast infections, and systemic candidiasis.

VVC is most common in females of reproductive age with 70% of females reporting to having had the condition and 20% of females experiencing rUTI's showing candida infection present too.

Causes

Overuse of Antibiotics/ Birth Control Pill/ Motility Issues / Food Sensitivities / Gallbladder Issues / Poor Enzyme Secretion/  Ultra Processed Foods / Leaky Gut / Excessive Exposure to Stress/ Weakened immune function/ Elevated oestrogen/ Type II diabetes

How do we get rid of it?

Diagnosis requires a multifaceted approach, including clinical evaluation, laboratory tests and sometimes imaging studies. My approach to treatment typically involves targeted dietary modifications and lifestyle adjustments, supplements and probiotics, and stress management. Moreover, managing candida overgrowth effectively requires addressing underlying causes and factors and can take several months to a year to fully treat.

Assessment and Treatment

  • Medical history and assessment

  • Stool testing & vaginal microbiome testing

  • Antibody and antigen levels in the blood

  • Swabs- skin, nails or vaginal mucosa

  • Organic Acids test

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

So you've been having symptoms and may have been diagnosed with PCOS already? More than likely you're searching for answers and solutions, certainly you'll want to know more about what your up against and what you can do to help your current situation.

Thats where I come in..... we can work together to take a deep dive into your condition and really work out how we can adapt your diet and lifestyle to manage and reverse your symptoms.

PCOS is a hormonal- metabolic condition that affects hormones and can lead to unpleasant symptoms.

But what's driving the condition you ask?

4 underlying mechanisms of PCOS include:

Insulin resistance: insulin resistance PCOS ~ most common, where your body doesn't respond to insulin properly and starts to overproduce   to get a response. You might also have other symptoms like, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and increased abdominal body fat.

Chronic inflammation: Inflammatory PCOS. You may have had a blood test that highlighted elevated inflammatory markers. This low      grade inflammation in the body directly stimulates excess androgen production by the ovaries which can look like ovulatory dysfunction as well  as PCOS symptoms such as weight gain, acne and increased body or facial hair.

Post-pill PCOS. Have you periods not returned after stopping oral contraceptive? Sometimes it can take up to 3 months to regain regular  peiords but occasionally this doesn't happen and you might experience androgen excess. I can work with your GP or health practitioner to  investigate what's going on and more importantly regain hormonal balance and sensitivity.

Adrenal PCOS-have you noticed extra weight gain and increased fatigue? These are signs of increased cortisol production. You may need  the help of an endocrinologist but your lifestyle and dietary intake is an essential part of managing this type of PCOS.

How does working with a nutritionist help?

Its important to understand that there is no 'one size fits all'. An individualised approach is essential and necessary to really  optimise your health and wellbeing.

What my lovely clients say.........

Alexa, Northants,

BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS

I was really embarrassed and found dealing with BV so frustrating as it just wouldn't go away, but Jenny's treatment plan finally brought relief. I've never felt so 'thoroughly looked after'.No more discomfort or worries. I feel refreshed and confident in my body's health.

Rachel, Glasgow,

CANDIDA

I had candida over and over again since I was a teenager and I just couldn't get rid of it. I worked with Jenny for nearly 6 months and did everything she asked me to do. Consistency has paid off! I have had no flare up or symptoms and I feel so much better in myself. I didn't realise candida was so complicated but I do feel I am in control now.

Ellie, Bristol,

MENSTRUATION

My daughter was really struggling with her periods, skin and mood. I approached Jenny as I didn't want her on medication. Jenny listened to her and understood her struggles and really supported her with a plan of action and explained why she was asking her to do certain things. Six weeks later and my daughter seems a different girl- her skin is pretty clear, she can cope with her emotions much more and and she says she feels much more confident.

Sophie, London

ACNE

Dealing with adult acne was so frustrating, but this skincare routine has worked wonders. Added to this was Jens approach to healing my skin form my gut! My skin is clearer, smoother, and my confidence has soared. I love that my programme was gentle yet effective, and it addresses the root causes of my acne. I've finally found a solution that gives me radiant skin and peace of mind."
